CELEBRATIONS ~ CITIZENSHIP ~ NUTRITION
Celebrations
Timber Drive hosts many celebrations throughout the year. The events are announced through the PTA, classroom newsletters, and local newspapers. Health, safety and instructional focus dictate that balloons, gifts, etc. will not be delivered to classrooms. Such recognition should be directed to the home. Classroom learning experiences are curriculum-based and may be facilitated by parents who coordinate the event with approval of the classroom teacher. Holiday, birthday, or other celebrations should be part of a learning experience.
An alternative for honoring your child is to donated and present a favorite book to the media center, provide a health snack (see Child Nutrition Link)for the day, or volunteer to help with an activity with advanced notice from the teacher. Please know that the staff at Timber Drive utilizes instructional time in the most effective manner.

Child Nutrition
VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE! Please read carefully.
Child Nutrition of WCPSS has communicated the following items of importance that are effective immediately as related to foods brought into schools. To reduce the risk of a food-related illness the following precautions are in place at Timber Drive.
In general only commercially prepared foods should
be brought into school for student consumption.
This would mean the food has a packaging /nutrition label. We have many children
at Timber Drive that have various allergies to food and ingredients in which
the food was prepared. High-risk foods of animal origin ( milk, eggs, meat,
etc.) that require refrigeration are discouraged.
Drier foods can be accepted for special occasions as pre approved by the teacher. These include cookies, cakes with commercial frosting ( no cream fillings), breads not containing pieces of fruit or nuts, vegetables, canned/bottled/boxed drinks. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU CONSULT WITH THE CLASSROOM TEACHER BEFORE SENDING IN ANY FOOD!!
Persons visiting the cafeteria to eat with their child should sign in at the front office and should plan to eat from the cafeteria line. NO FAST FOODS should be brought into the cafeteria. ( This guideline is in the Parent Handbook.)
Field trip provisions for keeping beverages/food safe will be handled by the classroom teachers.
